What stops you from talking to God - regularly?
This question was posed in my devotional the other morning, and it stopped me in my tracks.
Considering we created a journal all about spending more time with the Lord and hearing His voice more clearly, it's probably safe to assume we're big believers in the power of prayer.
Quite simply, prayer is talking to God and listening to Him.
It's a conversation - not a one-sided wish list.
And yet - even when I know how important prayer and my time with the Lord is... it's far too easy to allow it to just become another "to do" each day.
Anyone else struggle with this?
But every time I find myself slipping into that problem, I think about this: if God doesn't come first, if we don't prioritize our time with Him daily, then something else will take His place in our lives.
And I don't know about you - but that's the opposite of how I want to live.
So how do we create a habit of prayer?
How do we intentionally put Him first in our lives?
The answers to these questions deserve a lot more than one blog post (and I'd love to discuss them more in our Facebook group if you're up for it!), but for today I wanted to share 3 quick tips to help you build a stronger prayer life and start talking to God more regularly.
1. Make Prayer a Habit
Creating a habit of meeting with God requires discipline and practice.
A strong prayer life doesn't just happen overnight; it's cultivated every minute, day, and moment that you spend with the Lord.
Forming new habits can feel overwhelming, so we recommend starting small. Challenge yourself to praying for 10 minutes every morning, before your feet ever touch the floor of your bedroom.
In the book, Atomic Habits, James Clear discusses the idea of "habit stacking." Essentially, this means when you want to start a new habit you "stack" it with a habit you already have. For example, if you want to spend more time reading God's Word, and you already drink a cup of coffee each morning, then make that cup of coffee the cue to grab your Bible and spend that time in the Word.

2. Put God first
For most of us, this is probably easier said than done.
It's easy to say that God is our #1 priority - but does the way we live our lives actually reflect that?
Think about this: If you try to structure your life around God, but don't take the time to actually talk with Him, it will be impossible to keep your life focused on Him.
Talking to God every day doesn't need to be - and honestly shouldn't be - a difficult thing. Whether you have a full hour blocked off for quiet time in the morning or you have a conversation with Him while you're doing the dishes, every moment is an opportunity to spend time with the Lord.
I'd encourage you to read James 1:22 about being "doers of the Word" and ask yourself what may need to change in your life to make that happen and put God first?
3. Meditate on God's Word
Meditating on God's Word is simply spending time reading, thinking, and praying on it. It's focusing your mind on Scripture and nothing else.
We're big believers in spending focused time in God's Word (it's a big reason the Kairos Journal starts every Daily Page with a space for a memory verse).
The Bible tells us to store His Word in our hearts (Psalm 119:11) - and how can we do that if we don't spend time reading and meditating on it?
If you need a place to get started, we recommend meditating on Philippians 3:8 - "Yes everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."
Remember, our God is not distant from us. He wants an intimate, daily, meaningful relationship with each and every one of us.
Radical change in our world starts with radical change in our own hearts and lives.
I pray today you're reminded and encouraged to put the Lord first, not just in words but in actions, in every moment of your life.
